y’all wanna know what really gets me? how emotional steve + bucky become towards each other over the course of the three cap movies. even if you don’t ship them romantically you have to acknowledge the fact that bucky is the driving force behind everything that steve does, even if it’s in some small, seemingly inconsequential way. they care so deeply for each other and after everything that’s happened to both of them they need each other

like you’ve got that scene in catfa where steve rescues bucky and even in his messed up state bucky, still grins up at steve like he’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. bucky says ‘let’s hear it for captain america’ and when steve turns around to look at the crowd bucky looks driven to tears, as if he’s asking what has the world done to you, my love?

in catws steve would rather die first than fight bucky to the death. steve knows in his heart that his bucky exists within the winter soldier, somewhere buried deep and hidden away. steve drops his shield and stops fighting, because no fight has ever been worth the danger of losing bucky. i mean you are my mission / then finish it, ‘cos i’m with you till the end of the line come on

in cacw steve would literally fight the entire world to keep bucky safe. bucky has seen enough, done enough, and he’s trying to escape the confines of his own mind. the apartment scene, where steve is begging bucky to trust him on nothing other than human instinct; you pulled me from the river. why? / i don’t know / yes you do and bucky does, because not even decades of ice and brainwashing can erase the way steve makes bucky feel

Ficlet Challenge: Hesitant Kiss

brooklynbetty:

This is my first installment in the Ficlet challenge started by @tinybearswithjetpacks  and @kat-atomic! Both me and @mariastill jumped on the bandwagon too!

I was supposed to post last night (whoops) but it morphed into a 3000 word angst filled scene. Thanks to @thatsmysecretduh for pointing out how many times I mentioned couch! I may cross post this on AO3 but for now, enjoy Steve and Bucky work through some heartbreaking shit!

Prompt – Hesitant kiss: The type of kiss where their lips touch a brush against each other’s a few times, breath fanning across each other’s faces as one waits for the other to make a move.

They were standing on opposite sides of the kitchen counter, both leaning against the cool granite for support. This was an ugly fight, one that brought to light hurts neither one knew were buried deep in their souls. Considering they’d been together since the 30s, it was a wonder they could hide such pain from each other.

“It doesn’t matter that you don’t remember our goddamn double date with the Johnson sisters! It was a dumb memory and I don’t know why you’re so fucking upset about it,” Steve hissed into the suffocatingly quiet room.

Bucky remained practically motionless, the rise and fall of his chest the only indication he was alive. He took in a ragged, tired breath before pushing away from the counter and standing up straight.

“That’s not the fucking point I’m trying to make and you know it!” Bucky fumed.

Steve was being deliberately obtuse and Bucky was done beating his head against a wall. He crossed his arms over his chest, a move they both knew meant he was shutting down. Bucky should have known Steve wasn’t going to let it go. He was going to keep digging and digging. And Bucky knew he wouldn’t like what he found.
