Thor wasn’t stupid, no matter what some of the Avengers (or his brother) thought. He hadn’t spent much time with Rabbit, but he’d seen how close he was with Tree. Fatherly, even, and now he was gone.
Like Loki.
Like Valkery.
Like his people.
Like trillions upon trillions of people in the universe.
Rabbit was a warrior, though. He didn’t grieve allow himself to grieve. He struggled and fought, arguing with the new Wakandan Queen, Shuri, about weapons and dimensional portals, and Thanos killing weapons. He didn’t stop, or slow. Like Thor, he kept going by putting one foot in front of the other, no matter the price to his soul. If he stopped…
Well, they weren’t going to stop. They weren’t going to heal, either.
The latest device to find Thanos had failed, like the hundreds before it. Rabbit had thrown something across the room and stalked off. Shuri sighed, looked to Steven, and shook her head. They wandered off, heads together, likely discussing matters of state. Wakanda had grown, its borders absorbing nearby countries as refugees poured in from across the world to one of the only countries not collapsing under the weight of The Snap and holding open boarders.
Thor watches them go, then followed Rabbit. He had no doubt Steven and the Queen would appreciate his advice with their problems, but he didn’t think they needed it. Rabbit, though…
Rabbit had climbed a tree and sat on a branch, staring ostensibly at the sunset, but Thor didn’t think he actually saw it. Thor stopped beside his branch, looking at Rabbit and not the beauty Wakanda managed despite their failure to save the universe.
“Can I hold your hand?” Thor asked.
“What?” Rabbit stared at him, his pointy face twisting with disbelief. “You want to hold my HAND?”
Thor nodded and held his hand out in proof.
“If you don’t mind. It is hard, knowing we’ve failed again, and I’d like to remember I’m not alone.”
Rabbit’s face softened and he looked down at Thor’s hand before taking it. Well, taking his finger. Thor’s hand was the size of Rabbit’s entire torso.
“Whatever, pirateman,” Rabbit grumbled, as if he was doing Thor a huge favor and not clutching so tight his claws dug into Thor’s skin. “Big baby.”
